Pancakes, etc.

I’m not afraid to admit I sometimes steal my best content from my clients.

This week I had a client who was frustrated by the shoddy work continuously sent to him by someone in his team.

Obviously there’s a lot of deeper work there around what’s going on, why the team member is falling behind, what his leadership looks like on this subject … yada yada yada

But my favourite bit was when we looked at how we could stop them getting under his skin RIGHT NOW.

He said to me (paraphrased with less explicitives for the algo):

“Ya know, he’s like pancakes … no matter what, the first one always goes in the bin”

YASSSS, what an analogy.

Then he said:

“Actually that helps me, because I can lower my expectation of him but also it gives me a tool to explain to him how he needs to take time and look twice.”

WOOOOO!

And THEN he said:

“And I suppose sticking with the pancake analogy, writing off my day because of him is like throwing out the whole batch, even though I KNOW the first one is always shocking.”

My god.

I’m not afraid to admit I wrote that down sharpish.

Gold.

But then dear reader, it’s no shock because this is what I do with my clients over 16 weeks;

We come up with tools for short-term wins to keep you sane and functioning …

… whilst unpicking the heavy stuff for the long- term gains.

Best wishes
